Clintonomics and Climate Change
This issue of energy and global warming has the promise of creating millions of new jobs in America. It can be a win-win, if we do it right.
- Sen. Hillary Clinton, at the Democratic debate in South Carolina
James Pethokoukis scrutinizes the economic logic of Senator Clinton's statement and determines that she has committed the classic broken window fallacy. Pethoukoukis argues that spending billions of dollars on a "supposed problem" may add climate change-related jobs, but at the cost of other jobs that actually increase productivity in "the nanotechnology industry or healthcare or business consulting or some industry we have yet to imagine."
Perhaps Clinton should read up on the ...

Speak No Evil
"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." -- Wendell Phillips, (1811-1884)
Eternal vigilance may be the price of liberty, but the price of vigilance may be a lawsuit. That is, if the Democrats get their way.
Remember the Flying Imams? In November 2006, six Muslim clerics were removed from a flight after several passengers noted their unusual behavior. In response, the imams sued the airline and the passengers who had reported their suspicions, claiming that they were the victims of a "malicious . . . conspiracy to discriminate."
Congressman Peter King (Rep - NY) has introduced legislation that would protect watchful Americans such as the "John Doe" passengers on the U.S. Airways ...

Victory at all costs
One thing is certain; Democrats are not willing to accept defeat, no matter what. No, I'm not talking about the war in Iraq. I'm talking about their all-out offensive against the Bush administration. For them, defeat is not an option. George W. Bush must be brought to his knees, no matter what the cost.
Having already proven their resolve by hosting an all-night slumber party in the Senate, it seems Democrats are ready to raise the stakes. Apparently, even genocide in Iraq is now an option. MessNBC reports that Barack Obama "said Thursday the United States cannot use its military to solve humanitarian problems and that preventing a potential genocide in Iraq isn’t a ...

Senate Slumber Party
Senator Mitch McConnell notes today that The Dems have themselves in quite a pickle. They belly-ached long enough about needing a new strategy that the President finally gave them one in January. President Bush sent General Petraeus to Iraq, with an 81-0 confirmation from the Senate, to carry out the battle plan now known as The Surge. Almost immediately, Barack Obama boldly asserted, "The president's strategy will not work." What he should have said was, "The Democrats cannot afford for the president's strategy to work."
For the next three months the Democrats, who keep reminding us of the so-called mandate they've been given, tried to pass a funding bill that would keep ...

Una cancion de Kennedio
Listen to this audio clip of Ted Kennedy singing the proposed national anthem if the "Immigration Reform Bill" (a.k.a. Amnesty at any cost) passes:
[audio:kennedycancion.mp3]
It's no wonder he is often referred to as the "Senior Windbag from Massachusetts." If only Mary Jo Kopechne had lungs like Ted's...

UPDATE: Looks like we won't have any future opportunities to hear Sweaty Teddy croon about his favorite Mexican state any time soon, as the immigration bill died this morning, along with John McCain's presidential hopes. Legal American citizens can now breath a sigh of relief, knowing that accomplishing ...

Dinero hablando
Like the monster/villain/zombie/alien in the last horror flick you rented, the "immigration reform" bill (a.k.a. amnesty for everyone bill) is ALIVE! The bill, supported by just 22% of Americans, has been brought back to the floor for debate. This does not mean that it will eventually pass, of course. I talked with a staffer from Ben Nelson's office this morning who said that Nelson is opposed to the bill itself, but that as a matter of principle he believes every bill deserves an up or down vote. Nelson's vote was one of the 64 YEAs, though he will (hopefully) vote against the bill itself.
If you're concerned that your senators will betray the ...

Democracy Not For Everyone?
Anne Gearan clamors for the moral high ground as she questions Bush's commitment to democracy in the Middle East. Calling it a "rhetorical cornerstone," she accuses Bush of using the goal of establishing an Arab democracy as window dressing for his war in Iraq.
What has Bush done to earn Gearan's scathing assessment? Apparently, he had the audacity to throw his support behind Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who "evicted Hamas radicals from his government over the weekend and is now the sole elected figure running the Western-backed Palestinian government in the West Bank." Abbas' actions were prompted by a bloody coup in which Hamas took control of Gaza. Gearan adds that Abbas was trying "to consolidate power and avert all-out civil war with his Islamist Hamas rivals." The evicted Hamas leaders were elected in January of 2006, when Hamas took 76 out of 132 seats in the Palestinian parliament.:"(Wikipedia)":
Gearan tries to paint Bush as a hypocrite who supports democracy at all costs in Iraq, but quickly defends the supposedly un-democratic actions of Abbas. Shame on President Bush for not realizing that civil war in Iraq is bad (so bad that we should get our troops out of there before one breaks out), but civil war in Palestine is good, especially when it is perpetrated by a militant Islamic terror organization such as Hamas. Elected or not, Hamas does not deserve the sympathy of those who would have us believe that the U.S. and Israel are to blame for all the trouble in the Middle East.
Credited with hundreds of suicide bombings, rocket attacks against civilian targets, and frequent calls for Muslim attacks against Americans, Hamas has no right to claim legitimacy as a political party.

Spell Checker in Chief
We've all heard the Dems lamenting the "jobless recovery." Perhaps a spell-checkless recovery is what they have in mind instead... Maybe someone should have pointed out that there are two L's in Hillary, but not two M's in "tommorrow."

Riddle Me This
A few questions I've been pondering regarding the plot to blow up JFK airport (note: JFK is IN NEW YORK CITY):
Why would the NY Times repeatedly downplay the danger of this plot? If the old adage that "If it bleeds, it leads" is still true, why would a news outlet tell us that the story they are reporting isn't much of a story at all?
Speaking of downplaying the story, why would the NY Times bury this story on page 30, in the "NY Metro" section? Instead, they ran stories on the front page under headlines of "A legal debate in Guantanamo on boy fighters†and "President’s push on immigration tests GOP base.â€

In Big Oil’s Back Pocket
From CNNMoney.com:
A new survey by the National Retail Federation said rising gasoline prices are a growing worry for consumers and retailers as prices at the pump hit a record high for a sixth straight day Friday.
The motorist group AAA said the average price for a gallon of self-serve unleaded hit $3.129 in its latest reading, based on a daily survey of up to 85,000 gas stations. That's up from Thursday's record of $3.114.
The group warned in congressional testimony this week it believes that more record prices could be on the way. It's forecasting prices will approach $3.25 a gallon over the next 60 days.
Neil Cavuto reminds us (video | transcript) of what some key Democrats have ...
