Person(s) of the Year: The American Military
TIME got it wrong by selecting Comrade Putin.
Vets for Freedom gets it right:
The Military Fighting Force of the United States
Okay slight bias here… but find me a more suitable Person(s) of the Year than our brave men and women. All the much deserved love and appreciation heralded onto the shoulders of General David Petraeus and his ingenious plan that has saved tens of thousands of American and Iraqi lives would be nothing without the men and women on the ground. Together, shoulder to shoulder they stand between the terrorists who force their fundamentalist ideals onto the civilians of Iraq who wish nothing more than to live with their families in peace.
The surge would not have been successful without thousands upon thousands of foot patrols at two in the morning. Environmental conditions so nasty they have to be experienced to believe. Oh yeah… and there are terrorists trying to kill you.
I’ll see you’re Vlad Putin and raise you the First Infantry Division.
No longer is the Baghdad sun blotted out by the smoke of car bombs at all hours of the day. Mixed neighborhoods do not have Sadr led militias performing checkpoints in broad daylight. Diyala province is again seeing signs of normalcy since spider trails and insurgent networks of Iranian Revolutionary Guard have been disrupted by US Army Striker units. The Marine Corps has been allowed to work the miracles seen today in Anbar Province.
Before there was a plan for a surge, there were buckets of American blood spilled in Iraq. Be not mistaken for one minute why we are so close to sealing the deal in Iraq… it is the soldier, the sailor, the airmen and the Marine who are responsible for this turn of events. Democrat and Republican personnel, from Red states and Blue fight off terrorists that are hell bent on destroying Democracy and unsettling order.
We will never forget those we lost. And we will never stop supporting those who serve by holding to account all those who wish to put their agenda above our security.
