So How Many of THEM Have WE Taken Out?

Since the media is focused only on civilian and coalition deaths in Iraq, let’s provide some balance. How many of the enemy have we taken out of commission?  Bill Roggio at The Fourth Rail reports:
My understanding is that insurgent KIA numbers are vastly under appreciated by most people, this is likly due to the fact that the military does not do body counts and the MSM has little interest in keeping tabs on enemy dead.
From a recent interview by Gen Odierno, 3184 insurgents were KIA (1016 were wounded) between January 15 and May 31 2007 (before the surge had even reached full strength).
The numbers are solid. Bill links to this Defense Link slide which shows the 3,184 KIA and 1016 WIA figures. The slide also shows 17,946 terrorists detained. We have also captured more than 1,700 HVT’s (high value targets)–291 killed and 1491 detained.
When you add it all up, that’s more than 20,000 of the enemy that we have taken out one way or another. That’s 20,000 in a little over 4 months. That’s 20,000 taken out of commission before The Surge was in full swing. That’s 20,000 fewer jihadists who can make their way to our shores. That’s 20,000 fewer killers roaming the streets of Iraq looking for innocents to terrorize and behead. Â
That’s what I call progress. Support The Surge!
