Who is Lying?
W. Thomas Smith, Jr., asks a great question over at The Tank: Who is lying, Harry Reid or Gen. Petraeus?
While Reid is in Washington talking about our “failed” Iraq war and describes Iraq as “an epic tragedy,” he said: “The President’s troop escalation is now complete . . . .”
Smith contrasts this with what Gen. Petraeus was telling CNN:
I think it’s important to remember that we’re still a week and a half, two weeks away from having all of the surge forces even on the ground for the first time.
So CNN asks for clarification:
General, just to be clear, you do not have all of your troops on the ground in country in Baghdad yet?
Petraeus responds:
That is correct. The fifth of the five surge brigades and the Marine Expeditionary Unit and the combat aviation brigade are still positioning themselves in Iraq as we speak, or moving up from Kuwait. And again, they’ll all be in position and actually in operations in less than two weeks.
Tom Smith then summarizes:
“So here we have it: Reid in Washington is telling the American people the entire surge force is in place. His words being the ‘troop escalation is now complete.’ Petraeus in Baghdad is telling us, we’re still positioning — or moving into country — a ground combat brigade, a Marine Expeditionary Unit, and a combat aviation brigade. That’s a few thousand combatants not yet in position.”
“So who knows best, and who’s telling the truth? You make the call.”
Support The Surge and impeach Harry Reid!
