Pelosi’s Trip to Syria Foolish — and Treasonous
In assessing recent statements and actions of the Democrats it is helpful to look at the actual language of the Constitution. Was it treasonous for Nancy Pelosi to hold unauthorized meetings with the leader of Syria and then after doing so to declare that “the road to peace runs through Damascus?”
Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution states, “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.”
Did Nancy Pelosi not give aid and comfort to the enemy when she flew to Syria and met with Assad? Here is a country that has a longstanding history of using terrorism to try and disrupt the democracies of the Middle East. Not only that, but it is well known that Syria is allowing foreign fighters to flow into Iraq from its borders and also providing money and weapons to the terrorists in Iraq who are trying to kill Americans. Syria is an enemy of democracy. Syria is an enemy of peace. Syria is an enemy of the United States.
Even the usually Pelosi-friendly Washington Post shunned the visit. As the Post stated, “Ms. Pelosi’s attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.” By giving “aid and comfort to the enemy” it was something else: treason.
